Dow RunWalk

Green Efforts

This year we are implementing new systems to lessen any negative environmental impact of the Midland Community Center’s Dow RunWalk on our beautiful city.  This year we are:

Partnering to give runners the opportunity to drop off their old shoes for reuse at the Packet Pick-Up & Expo, Health & Fitness Fair and the Midland Community Center.

  • Offering runners reusable race bags at Packet Pick-Up provided by Meijer
  • Offering runners t-shirts made from 100% Organic Cotton as opposed to a 50/50 blend.
  • Prompting runners and walkers to register for races online.
  • Utilizing in office recycling for all race related items (i.e. printing, cardboard etc…)
  • Collection & utilization of email addresses again this year to continue to reduce our paper and printed advertising needs for next year's race.
  • The use of recycled paper whenver possible.
  • Asking runners, walkers and spectators to please be aware of the space around them. Help us keep Midland beautiful and green by putting trash in proper receptacles.
  • Using lead/sweep cyclists versus automobiles (provided by area cycling clubs)
  • Providing opportunity to recycle D-tags and Race Bibs, post-race
  • Partnering to give runners the opportunity to drop off their old shoes for reuse at the Packet Pick-Up & Expo, Health & Fitness Fair, and the Midland Community Center
  • Recycling water bottles post-race with the help of Midland Volunteers for Recycling

This is not an exhaustive list and it will continue to grow as more details are completed.
